Ben Myers' Right Here in Hollywood: Worth?

Guys,

I'm kind of interested in buying this book. Books are one of the few things I can actually import without a fancy-ass credit card so I'm really considering it. So, you people who read the book:

Is it worth it? I mean, does it have interesting info I don't have yet from interviews/SOADFans/SOADomized days/lives? Is it good reading, in general? I heard that Ben Myers does a good job, except for dates which he can't seem to get right.

Anyway, any feedback will be appreciated.

I read it about 5 years ago now, pretty sure I got it soon after it came out. It's alright...a lot of the stuff I already knew, some of it was interesting.

There's a few instances where he is behind the scenes at signing sessions and Daron freaks out about someone being there. Or am I getting mixed up with an online interview? Fuck knows..

To be honest, NOW would be the perfect time to write a book...if someone got an inside scoop on what has happened to each of the members (daron: scars, scars auditions, the tour, the personal problems, court case, soad tour, issues with serj(?) return of scars) (john: torpedo comics - rise and fall, financial problems etc)

Problem is..none of the members would ever provide such inside access!

Buy it and judge for yourself anyway

Tis decent. As Toomerj said, there are parts that most fans would know but there are some insightful bits. How much are you trying to buy it for? More than £5 I think would be too much right now.

I read this a couple of years ago and personally I found it to be really interesting. I think there was a post about it on SOADfans a while ago and how some of the information in it wasn't correct, but overall I think it is definitely worth buying. As the other guys said, if you're a big fan and do your resreach you will probably know most of the stuff in there.

i actually think some of his info was sourced from soadfans or other fansites so it is not 100% accurate. But it has a lot of info on the early years that i have never seen before anywhere else. Like daron's first band snowblind, I never knew about that before. It should be required reading for everyone here

Well I was almost disappointed instantly because on the first page there is some wrong information... lists Serj's birthday as April not August.

^^Right, and he got John's birthdate off by 2 years. He was born in '72, SF's had it in '73 & Ben Myers in '74.

It seemed to me that the emphasis of the book was on the music scene in LA in the mid-late nineties, and how System fit in, which was something I would have known nothing about if not for the book.

But yeah, wouldn't it be great to read some kind of band biography APPROVED by the band, that was accurate, and where the guys all shared seriously true and interesting stories & insights that we hadn't known yet?



Or better yet a DVD compiled with the best interviews & footage from over the years?

it's been a while since i read it but was there anything in the book about andy? he should have alot of info on the early years because he was in both soil and soad.
